The Monastic Republic of Mount Athos (literally "Autonomous Monastic State of the Holy Mountain") is a region in northern Greece around Mount Athos, on the Aktè Peninsula in Chalkidiki. It has the peculiarity of not being part of the Schengen area, unlike the rest of Greece.
It brings together twenty monasteries and the various villages and houses that depend on them. They now shelter around 2.000 Greek, Bulgarian, Romanian, Russian, Serbian and other Orthodox monks, who lead a life of seclusion, introspection and prayer, in a landscape clinging to the mountains, sometimes just named "Christian Tibet".

The polar days (also called midnight sun) is a time of the year when the sun does not set. This phenomenon occurs around the summer solstice (June in the northern hemisphere, December in the southern hemisphere). 
At lunch time, what could be easier than drilling a hole in the ice and throwing a line to fish for fletan? Greenland halibut is also called turbot, Greenland halibut, blue halibut, small halibut, Newfoundland turbot or Greenland turbot.

The carrelet is a square net with a surface area of a few square meters stretched over a flat frame and lowered horizontally by means of a winch from a pontoon that juts out over the river and on which a shelter or even a small dwelling is usually built. After  waiting a few minutes in order to dissipate the trouble caused by the descent, the net is brought up quite quickly, in principle trapping the fish that were between it and the surface.

The Siong Lim Tenple, also kmown as the Lian Shan Shuang Lin (traditional chinese) it’s a Buddist monastery situated in Toa Payoh. The temple was founded in 1898, but the construction only started in 1902 by Low Kim Pong and it finished in 1907. The monastery was classified as national monument in 1980.
Before entering to visit the monastery we discover in front of the main entrance, known as Shan Men, the montain door, three magestic entries, 9 meters high. The representations of the temple guards painted in vibrant colours. 
Siong Lim Temple means literally « Temple of the pagodas’ tree of the lotus montain ». It refers to the tree that exists in Bodhgaya, India where it is said that Siddharta Gautama achieved the enlightenment and became Buddha.
